Of course there are some concerns when it
comes to using technology in the classroom, specifically related to expense and
access. Luckily, resourceful
teachers can implement all of the above mentioned integration methods with the
use of only one computer if necessary.
Students can use a computer in the classroom, or computer lab, one group
at a time to record podcasts. They
can also do the same when it is time to write to their ePals, and sign-up sheets
are a good way to keep track of student schedules while guaranteeing equal
usage time. Since computers cannot
always be accessed from all student homes, teachers should be certain not to
produce assignments that are exclusively displayed on the class website. Instead, I feel that a class website is
most beneficial as a place to store an online portfolio of student work. That way, students can access the
website while at school, and it remains as a positive resource for all
students.
When used thoughtfully, technology can be
a great tool in the classroom. It can
act as an extension for a variety of lessons, and provide students with real
world applications for their work.
It can inspire creativity and encourage collaboration. Global connections can be made and
technology can act as the link between cultures. I’m excited to implement these ideas in a classroom one day soon
and make adjustments as necessary to better enhance student learning.
